are taking. ktvu news at 7 is next. >>> and overflow crowd tonight remembering a young girl who's life was cut short. happening it now, a candle light vigil at martinez jr. high school. hundreds gathering to remember tina betty. that tragic accident was a jenna ran back to retrieve her cell phone. her boyfriend said they had been sitting on the tracks. he saids they ran from the tracks what they heard the train whistle but that jenna went back for her phone and was killed instantly. >>> a major development tonight involving a report of a sexual assault of a transgender student at the hercules high school. police now say there was no assault, that had the student has recanted the story. the school board president said he's relieved this teen wasn't victimized. hing a nones the district has problems but just because the case was a false alarm that doesn't mean all the problems have been solved. he says the district has an opportunity to make changes including getting surveillance cameras. he says cameras could have made a difference in this case. >> if there had been a surveillance syste
with claims of bullying and sexual harassment has been hit with violence once again. ktvu's tara moriarty is live in martinez with how hercules high school is responding to an attack of a transgender student in a boys' bathroom. >> reporter: parents and students say they were surprised by this attack recent one -- the second one in just the past few months. this morning, school flirls held an emergency -- officials held an emergency meeting. parents said they were shocked that a male transgender student was sexually assaulted in a bathroom yesterday during school. >> i'm very bothered by it. as parents, we did not receive a phone call. i actually heard from the students. >> reporter: another parent said her kids are worried about safety. >> they said not again, hercules, not our school. please, no. we don't want this. >> reporter: police say a 15- year-old freshman who identifies himself as a male was attacked by three boys ages 16 and 17 after using the boys' bathroom. >> i'm not so surprised if this happened at hercules high school. >> reporter: james rose says he is surprised this part

problems with it. ktvu's janine de la vega is live in palo alto just one city in santa clara county bracing for potential flooding. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning. there is light rain falling right now here in palo alto. there is concern about flooding in various parts of the peninsula. you can see here, i'm surrounded by sandbags. i'm here at a pickup location on embarcadero. this is a great way to protect your property by lining it with these bags. somebody just came by a little while ago and loaded bag in their car. it was sprinkling in east palo alto where the city has designated sandbag pickup locations, including this one on university avenue. now, city officials are concerned because of the major flooding that took place when a storm hit in december of 2012. the creek crested. the surrounding neighborhoods flooded causing damage to streets. with rain hitting over the next few weeks, they are preparing. crews are on standby around the clock for the next few days to handle any situations that might arrive. there are 23 locations in the south bay where you can pick it u
in the newsroom, ktvu news. >>> dozens of juveniles are unpray basion. a team of officers check on those teens at the school and their homes. we went with them to see what it means to keep those kids in compliance. >> 1049 high school for compliance. >> more than a dozen officers went out on this rainy day with one person, to check in on teens who are in trouble with the laws. >> we're here to snake sure the students don't reoffend. >> the juveniles on the list are on probation. these compliance checks happen at random every month. this he go to high schools to make sure the kids are in class. >> just letting you know we're doing compliance checks for a couple of probationers. >> if the number of officers surprises you some of these kids are in trouble for serious crimes, include violent crime. >> gun possession, pet i think think theft. >> so, after they're taken out of class, they are searched first before juvenile officers check their attendance records and lockers. >> they don't just check them from school, they are cuffed and officers put them in the back of police cars and bring them hom
